THE SIDDHESHWAR TEMPLE:
There is a series of three gates that provides entry to the inner courtyard of the temple from the road. The Samadhi of the Seer is situated in the center of the courtyard. Another part of the courtyard leads to a garden and the shrine of Saint Nalavatvad is found in the center of this garden. The image of the sacred bull, which is called Nandi, is located in the ante-Chamber. A stone walled shrine, which is lined with sheets of silver with engravings on it, can be found on the back wall of the ante-Chamber. The saint used to meditate in the center of the black wall.[
The temple and lake have been administered since 1899 by the ‘Shri Siddheshwar Devsthan Panch Committee’.
SIDDHESHWAR YATRA or GADDA YATRA:
History:
Legends say that a girl named ‘Kumbharkanya’ who wish to marry Siddarama, but he denied and suggest to marry his Yogdanda.
Rituals:
It is a 15 days grand yatra where devotees celebrate marriage. On these days Danda is decorated as bride and groom.
The Yatra occurs as follows:
Yatra starts on Shakambari pornima and ends on following day of amavasya.
1St Day: thailbhisheka is performed
2nd Day: Akshata is performed
3rd Day: Homa is performed
4th Day: Fireworks are performed
Their is also a grand fair called ‘Gadda Yatra'.
Quick Fact:
It is believed that when solapur face a major Drought situation Lord siddharama lead their 4000 students and build the lake,which is known as Siddheshwar Lake. From then Siddharama become main god of Solapur citizens.
