Chronology of historical events:
August 1. By order of the People's Commissar of Defense, the post of chief of the Rear Services of the Red Army was introduced and the Main Directorate of the Rear Services of the Red Army was established;
August 1. Smolensk battle. A simultaneous strike by a group of forces under the command of K. K. Rokossovsky and units of the 16th and 20th armies in the Smolensk region broke through the encirclement front of the Soviet troops;
August 2. In Washington, an Agreement was signed to extend the trade agreement between the USSR and the USA for a period of 1 year;
August 2. Defense of the Arctic. The ships of the Northern Fleet carried out a successful operation to evacuate the landed amphibious assault on July 14 in the Bolshaya Zapadnaya Litsa Bay;
August 7. Fighter pilot V. V. Talalikhin, while defending air approaches to Moscow, made a night ram and destroyed an enemy bomber;
8 August. The planes of the 81st Air Division under the command of the brigade commander MV Vodopyanov bombed Berlin;
August 9. The USSR and Great Britain made a declaration to the Turkish government about their readiness to observe its territorial integrity and provide assistance in the event of an attack on it by any European power;

25-th of August. Iranian operation. The Iranian government received a note from the Soviet government on the introduction of Soviet troops into Iran in connection with the widespread anti-Soviet activities of German agents and the threat posed to the USSR. On the same day, Soviet troops entered Iran. At the same time, according to an agreement between the governments of the USSR and England, British troops entered the southern part of Iran;
August 28. German troops occupied Tallinn. The Tallinn passage of the Baltic Fleet ships from Tallinn to Kronstadt began;
August 28. Finnish troops occupied Vyborg;
August 29. The Iranian Armed Forces laid down their arms in front of the British, and on August 30 in front of the Red Army;
August 30. The troops of the Reserve and Bryansk fronts went over to the offensive, starting the Yelninskaya and Roslavl-Novozybkovskaya offensive operations, respectively;
