In statistics, a Statistical unit refers to the objects or entities being measured or observed
Here is a comprehensive method of classifying statistical units. So statistical units are broadly divided into 2 types depending on when it is used. We have the unit of collection if it is used during data collection, as well as the unit of analysis and interpretation used during data analysis
The unit of collection can be either a unit of enumeration depending on the unit that is counted or enumerated hence the unit of enumeration or depending on the unit that is measured or recorded hence the unit of recording
The recording unit can be further divided into simple or composite units depending on whether one or more measurements are involved.
When it is only one measurement, it is said to be simple and when it is more than one, it is said to be composite. Composite units can be either compound or complex depending on the intricacies involved in the measurement If there is not a very intricate relationship between the measurements, it is called a Compound unit.
However, if there is a diverse and intricate relationship between the measurements then it is said to be complex On the other hand the unit of analysis can be either a rate, ratio, percent, or coefficient depending on how the data is analyzed or interpreted.
If the data is analyzed by observing the measure of the occurrence of a particular event within a specified period, this is called a rate. But if it is analyzed as a relationship between two numbers indicating how many times the first number contains the second, then this is called a ratio. However, if it is analyzed as it is a part or fraction of a whole expressed in hundredths, it is called a percentage
finally, we have a Coefficient: when which is simply a numerical value that represents the relationship between two variables in a statistical model. Now can you give examples of each of the types of statistical units mentioned above?
