Introduction to Ogives. (less than Ogive or More than Ogive)

An Ogive is a curve of the cumulative frequency distribution of a dataset. It is used to visualize how data accumulates over a given interval.
Hmmm, what does this even mean?
Well, when anytime we want to see how the data in a frequency distribution accumulates over time, we usually create a cumulative frequency of that data. To better visualize this data accumulation over time, you will need to plot a graph of the cumulative frequency on the y-axis and the class intervals or class boundaries on the x-axis. When you do this, what you get is a curve that is called a cumulative frequency curve, cumulative frequency polygon or simply called an ogive
.
An Ogive is primarily used to estimate how many numbers lie below or above a particular value in a dataset.
As there are two types of cumulative frequency distributions, i.e., Less than cumulative frequencies and more than cumulative frequencies, the ogive is also of two types:

1. Less than Ogive
2. More than Ogive
The less than Ogive curve is an increasing curve that slopes upwards from left to right as seen in this chart
While the more than ogive curve is a decreasing curve that slopes downwards from left to right
