Hey guys, in my last Linkedin post, I had created a Google Web Story and promised that if it got a lot of traffic, I will post a tutorial video on it.
Well, it did get a lot of traffic, if you can see my Google Search Console Data here, you will see, that in just a few days, the number of clicks and impressions were massive
For those of you who don’t know, Web stories show up on the Google Discover feed in the Google App in the form of carousels. A wonder-full interface, check it out on your Google App.
These stories are interest-based, so everyone will have unique stories on topics that they like. So it's another great way of getting highly relevant audiences to your website.
So I’ll show you how it is done on WordPress, and a few hacks to create one quickly.
I am going to use Digital Education School as an example, and this was the same web story I created for them that I shared earlier.
They offer a Live Graphic Design course for super cheap prices, so if you want to learn design, they have a new batch starting at the end of Feb, check them out, it will help you improve your branding, marketing, and even possibly get freelance gigs for just Rs.5000 as a course fee. They are India’s cheapest Live Graphic Design Course
Okay now enough of promoting them, I’m going to get into it
Step 1: Log in to your WordPress Dashboard and search for the Web Stories Plugin. Once you download it, you will see an interface like this.
Here you have the option of creating web stories from scratch, or you can use a template and then customize it to your needs. I always use a template because it usually saves me a lot of time
Step 2: Choose the template of your choice, select it and then customize it
Step 3: Make it as interactive as possible, you can add images, gifs, shapes, videos, etc and at the end of your slide, add a clear CTA that connects to your story and insert the landing page link
Step 4: Fill in document information like tags, title, category.
Step 5: Hit publish and send it for indexing on Google Search Console and you’re done.
Just wait for a few days, and if all goes well, your web story will be live and send you tons of traffic and maybe even conversions
