Berkeley Public Health study finds arsenic, lead, and other toxic metals in tampons
A study from #UCBerkeley #BerkeleyPublicHealth and #ColumbiaUniversity #MailmanSchoolofPublicHealth found toxic metals like arsenic, lead, and cadmium in #tampons from various brands. These metals pose health risks due to the high absorption rate of vaginal skin.
The first-of-its-kind study was led by Jenni Shearston, a postdoctoral scholar at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health and the UC Berkeley Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management. Said Shearston, “I really hope that manufacturers are required to test their products for metals, especially for toxic metals."
