hello hello! thank you so much for clicking on my video :) i am terrible with filming a lot of videos when i'm traveling since i'm more of a picture person so this video came out a little shorter than i wanted it to... so i'm going to elaborate on some things here!!
i've heard about mackinac island for a while and have always wanted to go because of the old fashioned atmosphere. everything about the island is so unique and i just felt drawn to it. as a lot of you know, mackinac island doesn't allow vehicles!(also they do have a few ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks for emergencies) the island has been motor vehicle free since 1896 because when cars were first brought to the island they scared the horses. most(if not all) of the buildings on mackinac island have been there for ages as its quite difficult to build houses since supply transport would be very tedious.
the island is filled with walking trails and sights to see along the way. a very popular landmark is arch rock! it was a very short walk from fort mackinac and so worth it. there was a little information building that shared more about the history of arch rock. lilacs also cover the island this time of year and although they aren't native to mackinac, they are one of their biggest charms. every summer they hold a lilac festival for around a week that is full of activities appreciating the blooming lilacs. i was able to attend their lilac queen coronation which is for outgoing girls attending the mackinac island highschool. there was also a poster contest that is open for all! the winner has their poster displayed around the island for the duration of the lilac festival and it is added onto cans of specialty edition of mackinac beer.
for many of the shops, the prices are on the higher side but a few of the souvenir shops have amazing low prices for quality items. and majority of the souvenir shops carry the same things but mark them at different prices so make sure not to buy the first thing you see!! mackinac island is very well known for the fudge so make sure to pick up a few slices as well! there are so many quality fudge shops on the island that you can choose from and they all have an assortment of yummy flavours.
if you have any more questions then please comment them down below!! and please like + subscribe :)
thank you so much for watching and have a lovely day~
