Comparative Linguistics studies language from comparative point of view and based on synchronic description of language.
If Urdu is contrasted with Hindi and Tamil with Telgue, such types of distinctions comes under the comparative studies.
Historical Linguistics studies language change and development and based on diachronic description of language.

Applied Linguistics is the utilisation of the linguistic research based knowledge for the improvement of the linguistics tasks, where language is the central components (Corder, 1974).
Scope of Applied Linguistics are  language and education

 language and society( dialects, registers, language/speech communities
