“You don’t need a hero, just go out and create one yourself”

Bo Kramer walks, but still plays wheelchair basketball. Despite having a dream of playing soccer at Ajax, she ended up at Papendal via a detour and has already competed twice at the Paralympic Games.

As a young soccer player, she was diagnosed with bone cancer at age 11. Her right tibia was then completely replaced by her left fibula. After intense surgery, Bo was less able to run and exercise intensively. A "normal sport" was no longer in the cards.

Through a Paralympic talent day, organized by NOC*NSF, she came into contact with wheelchair basketball. She was immediately sold and success came very quickly. In 2014 she was allowed to join the World Championships and from 2015 she lives and trains full time #OpPapendal. Together with other athletes, she lives in a big white house on the edge of a busy road. If you follow that, you end up at Papendal. And eventually to the Paralympic Games. After a bronze at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Bo and her team made it to the gold medal in Tokyo!
