Shoulder MRIs: Just How Accurate Are They?
MRI results can be devastating. They can label an injury and lead us down the path to surgeries. The MRI does show a great picture of internal structures and how they may be injured or limited. We can lose hope when discussing the results. Fear and fixation can set in. All hope is not lost. Findings can be deceiving. There is an incidence of non-symptomatic findings, as well as false positives. MRIs can be very expensive, both for the individual and the insurance company.
MRIs do have their place as part of a comprehensive diagnostic process, but that’s all it is, a piece. It’s not the end all-be all. Sometimes MRIs are not needed. Simple examinations and treatments can be and often times are enough to fully address pains and limitations. The shoulder is not an exception here.
This video looks into the orthopedic aspect of shoulder MRIs. There are other applications of MRIs that are not spoken about in this video. This video does not claim that other applications fall within this discussion.
