When teachers need to be out of the classroom, a qualified substitute is key to making sure kids continue learning, uninterrupted. Your fill rate will tell you how many vacancies you have, but it won’t tell you why! Here’s a look at what the data tells us about the nationwide substitute shortage.
A few highlights from the Frontline Research & Learning Institute:
• On any given month or school year, half of all substitutes aren’t taking jobs
• On average, substitutes only work abut 4 days a month
• Nationally, only 80% of teacher absences are covered by a qualified substitute
