Despite having to go through a mid-week 4th spot play-off, the Dolphins went into the Knockout Semi against Valleys firm favourites. They beat the Diehards just seven days earlier (24-16) to hold a 2-1 overall winning record against them leading into this game.
Redcliffe had several Test and state players in their squad, while Valleys had just one (Incumbent QLD halfback Ross Henrick).
But that just played into the hands of outgoing Valleys coach Ross Strudwick who relished these situations. Check out the Sportscene preview for the game where Struddy accuses Redcliffe of bending the rules, using sly touch footy tactics to gain an advantage - obviously a ploy to get into the mind of the referee.
Struddy would continue with the mind games a fortnight later in the lead-up to the Valleys-Souths prelim final, but with much less success.
All the Sportscene panelists tipped Redcliffe, so check out how Valleys defied the odds.
