This quick test offers a simple way to diagnose a faulty car/van PCV valve. The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve plays an important role in an engine, by moving gases from combustion blow by back into the combustion cycle.
If it's defective it can cause high pressure forcing oil out of engine seals, or more oil into the combustion chamber, and high oil consumption. Other side effects are build up of deposits or sludge on the top cover, due to disrupted air flow.
I show you two ways to check a PCV valve, without removing it and no tools are required. You can also use remove the dipstick and test it there with the same method (if you car has one!)
