This one's kind of common sense, but I still see people openly sharing their devices or the credentials to get into those the devices or computers.

What's worse, is we have been called to sites to fix some connectivity issues and stuck the the KVM display in the server room is a post-it note with the administrator or root username and its password written immediately beneath it. I don't know what to make of that. Anyone in the company had access to this room as it wasn't a large environment and there were other pieces of equipment that required cooling so they were in there with the servers.

It is absolutely imperative to state that the first step of cyber-security starts with you, the human. In no way am I saying that you should become an IT expert in an effort to maintain your online presence. What I am saying is that in this day in age, it is very easy to fall victim to a scam or otherwise deceiving situation. Learn the basics of what your information means to you and then treat it as if it were your most valuable possession.

This all ties together with the frugal nature of sharing devices and computers. In the professional world, this is unacceptable and should constitute a firing. If you need access to something, ask for it, get the approval, and be granted access as yourself.

At home, that's another story, after all, your kids or your spouse or other close family may not scam you or steal from you... but if there's ANY doubt, reset your passwords, and secure everything. Leave your credentials in your will should in the even of death or otherwise.
