In this video we highlight some of the things we don’t like about the Shark Rocket with Zero-M Technology (models ZS351 and ZS350C).
Our biggest gripe with this vacuum is the noise level. In our noise level test (in which we use a digital noise level meter to determine peak decibels) the Rocket was the loudest of a group of stick vacuums. The handheld component also gives off a high pitched whine which can grate on your nerves over time. I would probably feel more comfortable using this with earplugs for longer cleaning sessions.
The Shark Rocket will not stand on its own. There are small rubber bumpers on the underside of the handheld component which allow you to lean the stick vacuum against a wall without marring or scratching but it is not an elegant solution. You can also remove the handheld component and hang it on the vacuum just above the cleaner head. It works and is a reasonable solution for storage but not the simplest thing to do when you just want to take a break from vacuuming for example. You usually end up leaning it against a wall or just laying it on the floor.
The crevice tool that came with our ZS350C was far too short providing about 5 inches of reach. We understand that model ZS351 has a longer crevice tool.
We performed an edge cleaning test and found that the vacuum did not clean up tight against an edge. It wasn’t bad really, but it just wasn’t that good either. We’ve seen better.
This is also a fairly heavy vacuum at 8.8 lbs (with power cord). It’s not the heaviest stick vacuum we’ve tested (that would be the Shark HV382 at about 9.5 lbs with the power cord) but it is still a hefty machine when compared to some of the stick vacs on the market from other manufacturers. In the video we show the Dyson V7 Motorhead which weighs only about 5.5 lbs.
The Rocket has three filters: two pre-motor filters and one post-motor filter. We wish the post motor filter was HEPA grade but it is not.
We also noticed during one of our hard floor cleaning tests that the wire bars on the underside of the cleaner head were making contact with the floor. We were testing the unit on tile and found that the contact was light and not an issue. However might it be for some more delicate hard flooring? Something to consider.
