Gerrard first met Cassidy in 2000 in Los Angeles (where he lives), when she came to work on the Gladiator soundtrack, and they planned to work together one day. When they finally found a two-month split, they joined Gerrard's Australian studio for this record.
WB Yeats' poem "Sailing to Byzantium" inspired the song of the same name.
The lyrics use three ancient languages:
Gaelic (old Irish) in "The Song of Amergin" (based on the first song supposedly sung by a mortal on Irish soil).
Aramaic in "Maranatha" (meaning "come lord, come teacher"), and "Abwoon" (meaning "our father", a rendition of the "Lord's Prayer" in the language of Jesus).
Latin in "Psallit in Aure Dei" (meaning "to sing in God's ear", a lament for Patrick Cassidy's late father).

Lisa Gerrard (Melbourne, April 12, 1961) is an Australian singer and composer who achieved international fame with the group Dead Can Dance, of which she formed the core with Brendan Perry. Gerrard received the Golden Globe Award for her contribution to the soundtrack of the film Gladiator in 2000.
Gerrard also contributed to the Man on Fire soundtrack. She is known for her deep contra-alto singing voice and her lyrics in a language she invented herself.
Gerrard's first experience with making film music came in 1989 with the Spanish film El Niño de la Luna, in which Gerrard also made her debut as an actress. The music for this movie was made by Dead Can Dance. The film showed the life story of David, an orphan with special powers, who tries to escape from the orphanage together with Georgina, played by Gerrard.
In 1995, Gerrard released her first solo album, The Mirror Pool. After this, she continued to collaborate with Dead Can Dance, which led to the release of Spiritchaser (1996). Two years later she recorded the album Duality with Pieter Bourke, which became the soundtrack to the film The Insider (1999). Other films for which she wrote music were Ali and Gladiator (2000, with Hans Zimmer). In 2004, Gerrard and Patrick Cassidy released Immortal Memory, the soundtrack to the movie Salem's Lot. A year later she collaborated with Ennio Morricone on the film score of Fateless.
In 2006, Gerrard was involved in the shooting of a documentary called Sanctuary. This film, made by producer/director Clive Collier, was the result of a number of interviews with Gerrard and people who had worked with her - including Michael Mann, Russell Crowe, Hans Zimmer and Niki Caro. The production was released on DVD in 2007. That same year, Gerrard released her second solo album, The Silver Tree, which appeared on iTunes. It was nominated for the Australian Music Prize. The compilation album The Best of Lisa Gerrard was also released in 2007, which included songs from her Dead Can Dance period as well as solo work.
Jan Evert Scholten
We owe the late Jan Evert Scholten that we can stretch our legs for free in the 140 hectares that the Stadspark has today. The best man lived in Groningen and in 1892 was one of the wealthiest Dutchmen. Generous as he was, he donated a large piece of land to the Stadjers in 1913 with the aim of creating a public park where everyone can enjoy sports, fun and relaxation.
Well done, right? Yet it has had a lot of feet in the earth. Landscape architect Leonard Springer was flown in to shape the whole, and together with the Groningen director of municipal works J.A. Mulock Houwer, they came up with a plan to transform the vacant lot into a wonderful nature park, entirely in English landscape style.
Bruilweering or De Bruilweering is a region on the border of Drenthe (Eelderwolde) and Groningen near the municipality of Groningen.

It is located southwest of the Stadspark in Groningen. The name is either derived from the family name Broils or from bruil (marshy land) with the suffix weering (dyke). The area consists of a peaty subsoil that extends to the Peizerdiep.
In this area there is an allotment garden complex, which is referred to by the same name. Since the beginning of 2005, the Groningen part has regularly been in the news because of disagreements between residents and the municipality of Groningen. The municipality wants to put an end to permanent residence and illegal construction on this site, the residents think this is unjust because it has been tolerated for years.
