Hydrofiction in Perspective |Ecocritical Reading of 'Arca de Não E', by Bento Baloi | JOÃO F. ANDRÉ
Against the backdrop of the ecocriticism of matter, our paper aims to bring together elements about the
impact of the capitalist world system on underdeveloped countries. Based on the concept of World Literature,
it will analyse the role of water in the novel Arca de Não É, by the Mozambican writer Bento Baloi. Following
the thread of the text, participants will realise that water, essential for life, can also constitute catastrophic
narrative material that leads to the loss of property and human life in cyclones and floods.
