If you want to make one of these yourself, the good news is that most of what you need is readily available from B&Q and Wickes, with the remainder available online, e.g. from eBay.
So - the main body of the door is made from a single sheet of 18mm thick plywood (from Wickes - 2440mm x 1200mm but cut to size). For the panelling, I used stripwood from Wickes - most of it was 34mm x 6mm softwood - apart from the sides, where I used 44mm x 6mm. Then the strip down the middle was 18mm x 6mm hardwood.
The frosted perspex for the windows at the top came from Midland Plastics - http://www.midlandplastics.co.uk/shop... - they do a service where they will cut this to size for you - I went for the 5mm thick perspex in 2 sheets - one for each window. The frames for the window were made from 8mm x 8mm hardwood from Wickes.
The panelling was stuck on to the main plywood section using “Forget Nails” glue from Wickes - this stuff is ludicrously strong when set! I do recommend weighing any sections down that are being a bit stubborn to stick though - e.g. if the wood is a bit warped - flight cases and make-up cases are ideal for this lol! Likewise, the window frames were stuck together using “Forget Nails” glue too.
The hinges and the door lock came from Wickes too. The lock I chose was this one - http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Privac... - this being because it’s reminiscent of the Yale lock on an actual TARDIS - and can be locked from the inside. As this is wider than the 34mm wide wood used for the panelling, I also cut a couple of extra bits of wood to go above and below the panelling so that there weren’t any nasty gaps.
The paint came from B&Q. The “TARDIS colour” paint is in a colour called “Nirvana” in satin. It’s just bog standard emulsion paint from the B&Q “Colours” range. For the inside of the door, I went for “Tropez Blue” - that’s in the more expensive range that says it’s good for all surfaces - whereas the “Nirvana” just said for walls and ceilings - even though it works perfectly well on wood too - provided you give it 3 coats.
Finally, the “POLICE TELEPHONE - FREE FOR USE OF PUBLIC” sign came from this seller on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/vintage-tiles - for all of £5.95 - and it comes with sticky fixers to stick it on with too! There are other sellers who sell larger signs along similar lines, but most of those are quite a bit more expensive.
There are also lots of eBay sellers who offer “POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX” signs too - again in various sizes, in various materials (e.g. metal and plastic) and in various fonts.
