Akshay Venkates - A Mathematical Genius || Fields Medal Winner Mathematician
Akshay Venkatesh, an Indian descent Australian mathematician is well known for his research in Number theory and Topology-two classic areas in pure mathematics.
Being a child-prodigy, in 1993 at the age of only 12, Akshay won medals in both the International Physics Olympiad and in the International Mathematical Olympiad. He is the only Australian to achieve this to date.
Though Akshay's research interest mainly focuses on Number Theory, he has made some landmark contributions in other areas also namely representation theory, locally symmetric spaces, ergodic theory, and algebraic topology.
In recognition of his excellent works in the area of pure mathematics, he was awarded the Fields Medal in 2018. He is the second Australian to receive this prize after Terence Tao.
