Will AI impact SEO?
That’s the million dollar question.
We know that Microsoft will be including ChatGPT’s AI bot in the Bing search engine in the near future.
But there’s no need to wait on that. There are already several browser extensions that add ChatGPT to both Bing and Google.
And now there are also apps like Neeva that do the searching for you and bring you a summary of the results.
The problem with all of these types of apps is that it gleans from only the top 5 blog posts. And it relies on the other search engines to tell it what those top 5 are.
So, if you’re a blogger, and your post is not in the top 5, you likely will never be seen in these apps and extensions.
But the fact is, most of us know that the top 5 results are usually not the best fit for our query anyway.
So I don’t think I’d be scared of these apps cutting traffic to your site – at least for now.
The only things they have going for them are that there are no ads, and your search is private, meaning that Google and Bing are not collecting data on you.
But don’t think for a minute that these apps aren’t collecting data on you.
And I’m betting it won’t be too long before we start seeing targeted ads on them to help pay for the service.
So, will AI impact SEO and your ability to get traffic to your site?
Yes, eventually. But not from the apps and extensions we have today.
