Single Button Backup With Elgato Stream Deck And SyncBackFree
In this tutorial, we use our Elgato Stream Deck to trigger a single button backup routine, powered by SyncBackFree, enabling us to back up an unlimited number of files or folders from that single button, using an entirely free solution. We walk through the installation and configuration of SyncBackFree, creating backup routines covering multiple sources and destinations, before uniting those routines within a group. We then cover the syntax of the single “Open” function used by the Stream Deck to trigger the backup routine.
This is an example of the syntax used:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\2 BrightSparks\SyncBackFree\SyncBackFree.exe” “Full Backup”
We’ll break that down…
(1) Note that there are two parts to the information contained in this command [see (4) and (5) below].
(2) Note also that each part is contained within inverted commas (Symbol = “) also known as speech marks, or quotation marks). The command therefore requires four inverted commas in total.
(3) The two parts are separated by a single space.
(4) The first part is the exact pathway to the SyncBack.exe file on your system. You will set this path during the installation sequence, and, if you’ve accepted the default, you can simply copy this from the example reproduced above. In our example, this pathway is “C:\Program Files (x86)\2 BrightSparks\SyncBackFree\SyncBackFree.exe”
(5) The second part is the name of the group backup routine you have created. In our example above, this group is called “Full Backup”
Therefore, without using example data, the syntax is:
“[SyncBack.exe Pathway]” “[Name Of Group Backup Routine]”
