The Dolomites in 8K - Canon EOS R5 12Bit RAW

I wanted to test out the Canon EOS R5 12Bit 8K RAW possibilities by bringing it with me during our holiday to the Dolomites. It is an very exciting camera which I've been lucky enough to get my hands on from the launch, ever since it has been with me on numerous photo and videoshoots. Most of this video was shot on firmware 1.0, which didn't give me any overheating issues since most of the 8K clips were not longer than 45seconds. Halfway through our holiday Canon released firmware 1.1 which improved a lot and since then I've been loving the camera even more, especially in 4K.
Everything in this video was shot on the Canon EOS R5, 12Bit 8K DCI RAW with mainly the RF 70-200mm F/2.8 IS and PolarPro's Peter Mckinnon Variable-ND. Only 2 or 3 shots are made with the RF 24-70mm F/2.8 IS. The file sizes are absolutely massive, coming in at 2600Mbps. I used proxies to edit this Adobe Premiere Pro. The final export in Apple ProRes 422 HQ is 80GB!
To push the files even more, I handed the video over to Ollie Kenchington from Just Grade It. Who is not only a great chap, but an even better colourist. I told him to go mental on the grade and see how far he could push it. I wanted each shot to feel like it could be hung on a wall, so it’s got a slight feel of being impossibly sharp and yet simultaneously painterly.
