Salem witch trials archaeological discoveries
There are almost 1,000 surviving official documents from the trials that took place in Salem in 1692, but few relate directly to the 19 hangings and none of them indicates the exact location of the executions, which were eventually overlooked.
Between 2010 and 2016, a team of academics from the Gallow's Hill Project at Salem State University conducted several pieces of research and rediscovered the place: Proctor's Ledge, a rocky outcrop at the base of Gallows Hill, which became known as the place of the hangings, but without one. specific point.
