"October War" or "Yom Kippur War." The Arab-Israeli military conflict of 1973. A surprise attack by Egypt and Syria was supposed to drive Israel into the sea, but this did not happen. However, the Arab powers were one step away from success and proved they could achieve success on the battlefield. This conflict cost Prime Minister Golda Meir and Defense Minister Moshe Dayan their careers. Fifty years ago, they were also criticized for their lack of readiness for battle.
