Conversations in the U.S. about race and race relations are often played out using a black/white spectrum. Much of U.S. history is also taught using this spectrum. The issue with this is that often times other ethnic groups are glossed over and end up being pushed to either side of this binary.
Latinos belong to a population who have long been ignored in these conversations - despite our deep presence, history, and involvement in the development of the United States. When we are spoken about, our bodies are criminalized, our histories are disrespected, and our collective pain is delegitimized.
This is a message to those who attempt to dehumanize us. We are not illegal, we are not criminals, and we are much more than a pair of arms.
