Umar Khalid Khorasani, Other TTP Commanders Killed In Blast | Developing | Dawn News English
Umer Khalid Khorasani, one of the top Tehreek-e-Taliban commanders, was killed by an IED device as he was travelling, alongside other TTP leaders, in the Birmal district of Paktika “for consultation” when their vehicle hit a roadside mine on August 7. The news comes after the TTP and Pakistan reached a deadlock during their talks as the militant group refused to budge from its demand for the reversal of the FATA merger with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
So who was Khorasani and how will this affect the Af-Pak region? Senior Journalist Mubashir Zaidi says, “He was responsible for one of the deadliest attacks in Pakistan's history." While former Ambassador Zafar Hilaly, is of the opinion that this could have been an 'internal job' due to the rifts among the TTP ranks.
