Lorenzo, known as the "Artist," a life full of anxieties and shadows, has disappeared into thin air. His body will be found by some fishermen at Capo Noli. Marshal Paragorio (just like the saint who gives his name to one of Noli's churches) investigates this mysterious death, aided by seven strangers from Asti, "those from the Canonica," a group of friends who have recently found their place in Voze, near Noli (Savona), where they have rented the Canonica from the parish. Every morning, the first rendezvous with the world of "those from the Canonica" is Passu du Ventu. A place on the road from Noli to Finale, just past the center of Voze and near the church of San Pietro, where the north wind blows hard. A trattoria-bar-grocery and tobacconist, where you can eat and dance and breathe in an ancient atmosphere. Where people talk about vegetable gardens, fruit, wood for the stove, hunting, and above all, drink good glasses of wine. Where you meet eccentric characters and, at the same time, custodians of the memory of the place. What lies behind the death of the "Artist"? International drug trafficking? Perhaps the mysterious treasure of the Transylvania, the ship sunk in 1917 off Bergeggi? Or a settling of scores, rooted in the era of fascism and the misdeeds of the Black Brigades, as some disturbing coincidences would seem to suggest? Between the usual discussions of the great systems, life experiences and readings, dinners, clues and deductions, investigations and explorations in the picturesque surroundings of Noli (the Captain's Hermitage, Punta Crena, the Ciappo delle Conche, the Malpasso, the Lion's Rock, the Secca dei Maledetti), the seven "deputies" achieve much more than the solution to a mysterious case. The novel leads the reader into the welcoming atmosphere of a deep friendship and a shared life journey in the reserved Ligurian culture, and engages with the many stories that intertwine among the windswept mountains overlooking the sea.
Gianluigi Pistone, an antiques dealer by profession and a lover of the sea and nature, lives much of his time in Liguria, in Noli, where he dedicates himself, among other things, to stone balancing, the art of balancing stones.
Gianluigi Porro, from Asti, retired director of the Culture and Events Department of the Municipality of Asti and, until 2021, director of the Teatro Alfieri. He continues to work in theater and music, along with many other activities, having "saved time" for several years. He and some friends have rented the rectory in Voze.
Alberto Salvaneschi, born in Asti, a former pharmaceutical company executive, divides his time between Normandy and Italy. He plays the flute and loves to write.
