Important Update for STEM Students!
As of August 27, 2024, USCIS has released updated policy guidance regarding Optional Practical Training (OPT) for students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. These changes could significantly impact students’ STEM OPT extension opportunities.
Here’s what you need to know:
Eligibility Criteria*: Adjustments have been made to the eligibility requirements for STEM OPT extensions. Students must review the new guidelines to ensure they meet the updated criteria.
Extension Duration*: After earning the degree in a specific STEM field, students may apply for a 24-month extension of their post-completion OPT employment authorization if they’re an F-1 student who received a STEM degree included on the STEM
