Al-Mu'tadid Billah Abu Amr Abbad ibn Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Lakhmi (407 AH/1016 - 461 AH/1069 CE) was the second of the Banu Abbad rulers of Seville in al-Andalus during the Taifa period. He succeeded his father, Abu al-Qasim ibn Abbad, and successfully expanded the emirate westward to include Niebla, Huelva, and the island of Salatis. He then waged war against the Berber Taifas in the south, annexing Carmona, Morón, Ronda, Arcos, and Algeciras, before finally capturing Cordoba. Al-Mu'tadid is described as a noble, imposing, strong, and stern ruler, though also a despot. He imprisoned and executed many of his commanders, and it is said that he personally killed his eldest son, Ismail, when the latter conspired against him. He sought to unify al-Andalus under his rule, leading to numerous conflicts with the other Taifa kings of al-Andalus. Al-Mu'tadid married the daughter of Mujahid al-Amiri, the ruler of Denia. He had approximately seventy concubines, and his son, Muhammad al-Mu'tamid, inherited the caliphate from him.
