Rooted by Origin
Rooted by Origins is driven by the idea that we must first connect with the origins of where we came from so we can move forward together. Our complex will support the museum’s goals to inspire and educate all on the history, culture, and arts of Africans and African Americans.
All features of the design cultivate places of opportunity for the local African American community and other visitors alike to explore, learn, and reflect. The project is knit into the urban fabric of Pomona, with each entry and adjacency offering a dynamic experience that encourages people to come back, explore, and deepen their connection to this place and the stories told within. The outdoor spaces cultivate cultural understanding through elements that spark a sense of discovery and curiosity; while the central museum shelters origin stories of the past, knowledge from the present, and ideas for the future. H
Steeped in the histories of African Americans, ourselves, and our shared histories, visitors emerge from the museum to an enlightening moment within, where they can reflect and become a part of something bigger than they were before. " S
