Go Mac follow up
We had a great response when we talked about the Go Mac response to Intel’s Go PC adverts yesterday including a couple of ideas for more, so here’s what we’re doing. If you have an idea for one of these, post them up in the comments with #GoMac and I’ll make them into adverts ready for our Monday show to share with the rest of the viewers. Please keep it PG13 at worst, I don’t need to be demonetised!
But also - Dennis W mentioned in the comments that Apple should bring back the I’m a Mac ads, and I completely agree, but I want to know, who would you cast as Mac and PC in 2021 - Just get the old guys back or is Justin Long too Old? Should we have someone younger as Apple Silicon Mac vs Intel Mac’s Justin? Let me know!
Microsoft Office 2021 for Mac coming soon - and you can buy, not subscribe!
This year Microsoft will offer flat rate purchase options for its Office package, and it will be coming straight to the Mac too according to a number of sources. In addition to offering Microsoft 365 subscriptions which currently cost $7 individually or $10 for a family per month, there will be a purchase option with 5 years of support, though the pricing for this is yet to be seen, and Microsoft is still focused on their subscription model.
I’m torn between what the right move is here, I personally subscribe to Adobe’s creative cloud for Photoshop, but I think their price for the full suite is too high and use Final cut for video editing. I think Software as a Service works for keeping developers on the ball with providing constant support and updates, whereas when you buy a piece of software, there’s little incentive to keep improving it, and I do resent when I’m asked to pay for a new version… so I’m opening this one up to the comments - let me know what you prefer. Paying for big updates each time or a small monthly price to stay current.
5G got so real Apple is hiring 6G engineers!
In anticipation of 2030’s 6G roll out (or at least that’s when its projected to be arriving) Apple is now posting job ads seeking wireless system research engineers for current and next gen networks. The roles are based at Apples campuses in Silicon Valley, presumably Cupertino and San Fransisco.
It is possible that 2021’s iPhone range becomes exclusively 5G compatible, if the rumoured new SE comes to fruition taking the body style of the iPhone XR but with an A14 and 5G inside.

@iCave_Dave #iCaveAnswers do you think Apple would ever make a dedicated E-Reader? Amazon Kindle can go about 4-6 weeks between charges, + Bluetooth for audiobooks. Having an E-reader could save folks from killing the phone battery, and encourage more people to use subscriptions.

If we we’re to exam history with big transitions from Apple: The previous PowerPC to Intel they had PowerPC had one extra year of software(MacOS Snow Leopard)support before they would cut the Umbilical cord off supporting all PowerPC-Intel Mac’s, so this would be the likely scenario for the current transition and given the fact that Intel is putting Apple’s name through the mud even though they were main reason why they throttled in the first place and the fans where sounding like a Jet 🛩 engine taking off. I mean for Gods sake they have the a KFC Oven that can fry your chicken #GoMac. Thoughts? Also, I tried to contact you on your about page, but I don’t seem to see an email there from that interest in a collaboration for a podcast? #icaveanswers day 1 #notificationsquad on Living On iPad days

#iCaveAnswera Will Apple make a gaming controller, or just leave that to Microsoft, Sony, and others?

#iCaveAnswers - So, with the push for a VR headset powered by an Apple Silicon chip, doesn't it make sense for Apple to pick up (or at least invest in) a gaming studio or two to ensure that there's a library of content available? Consider how being able to run the same codebase across multiple devices (iOS devices, macOS devices, VR headset) could open up a lot of possibilities... and revenue streams.
