We created a three-episode video series to help you out. Let’s start at stage 1 - Functional and Compatibility testing!
The holiday season is the most profitable time of the year for the majority of businesses. And you want your app to work perfectly not just to increase sales but also to ensure a great customer experience.
Start by preparing your functional and device compatibility test suite in September. This will give you enough time to iron out all critical defects found in this stage and to implement the next ones.
The first step is to ensure that any new version of your app or web service is thoroughly tested for all basic functionality. We recommend building an inclusive test automation suite for both native apps and web channels. Design it so it can be successfully executed against a wide variety of real target devices.
Your functional test must cover the most common use cases for your app or mobile site. This may include:
1.Installation and uninstallation of the app
2. The latest version upgrade
3. Making sure the app resumes the last operation in case of a crash
4. Creating a new account
5. Making any payment transactions in the app
6. Upgrading and downgrading the subscription level
8. Checking the integrations to other services
When creating the test suit make sure that each test can be run individually, this will be especially helpful in other stages.
Once you have your functional test suite in place it is time to define a set of target devices where everything must work 100%. Pick:
The most popular Android & iOS devices;
A good mix of hardware and software;
All expected holiday sales blockbusters
different browsers on each device.
Now after you finish the most important and most time-consuming part, the clock is ticking and it’s time for the second stage - Performance and Load Testing.
