Starting at 22 years old, Alex and his wife began house hacking, buying properties and renting out rooms to cover their expenses. They focused on properties that would cash flow and used a 1031 exchange to acquire multi-unit properties in Ohio. However, they faced challenges with renovations and difficult tenants along the way.
In this conversation, Alex shares his experiences and lessons learned from investing in real estate. He discusses the importance of property managers and the challenges he faced with finding reliable ones. He also talks about the costs of property renovations, the potential for higher rents, and emphasizes the long-term benefits of real estate investing and the need to think bigger.
Alex highlights the value of partnerships and the willingness to ask for help. Alex's dream deal is to pay off his primary residence, as he enjoys his lifestyle he has earned playing pickleball, backpacking, and spending time with his family and dogs.
