That's the main idea behind this video, which is more of a personal account than a tutorial, as I suspect very few people will replicate this DIY project.
In any case, it's often possible to extend the life of an object with very little, so why not do it?
It's often just a matter of imagination.
And again, underlying this DIY project is a question about the desire to limit the lifespan of objects... I imagine the plastic collar might be justified by a desire for insulation in case of an electrical problem, but frankly, I have my doubts.
