Uncle Sam Mechanical Bank
The Uncle Sam Bank is probably one of the best known of all mechanical banks. It first appeared in 1886 and has been in production, somewhere, ever since. The quality of the modern reproductions range from good to God awful. The best were made in the United States by the Book of Knowledge. They employed all the same techniques in painting and assembling their banks. As well as using the same foundries where the originals were cast. My feeling has always been, if you can't afford the original, hold out for a Book of Knowledge.
