John and Mallory's Story
This video is about the relationship of John Calhoun and Mallory Crist, a young woman who made a profound impact on his life – as did he, on hers. John spent over 40 years of his life in an institution in Oregon provided “for the feeble minded”. When he got out he proved he was anything but that, going on to a career in the State of Oregon's Department of Human Services, for many years working and speaking as an advocate for those with exceptional physical and cognitive challenges. John now lives in Portland, Oregon. He wrote this story and it needed to be shared.
