Karl Blossfeldt - Alphabet der Pflanzen
Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) was neither a professional photographer nor a natural scientist, but a professor at the School of Applied Arts in Berlin, sculptor and amateur photographer. His interest in the world of plants was of an artistic and didactic nature: he was interested in the structure of plants, their organic composition, their "highest artistic form", which he wanted to make visible and comparable with the help of photography. His goal was to create a systematic catalog of forms that would serve visual artists, craftsmen, and above all architects as a textbook and sample book. At the end of the 1920s, Blossfeldt published his photographs in two books. They made their author famous overnight and went down in photographic and art history as classics of their genre.
