A standard match of Dota 2 features the strongholds of two opposing factions, the Radiant and the Dire, containing critical structures called "Ancients", which are surrounded by a number of lesser buildings. The bases of these two factions are connected by three main paths, referred to as "lanes", which are guarded by defensive towers, as well as autonomous units called "creeps", which periodically spawn in groups and traverse the lanes, attacking enemy units or structures they encounter.
