Discussing a recent lawsuit against a security researcher who ethically disclosed the severity of a ransomware attack against the City of Columbus. Columbus claimed that the data that was exfiltrated and uploaded to the Dark Web was inaccessible, and once the researcher proved this to not be true, he was sued for “criminal acts, invasion of privacy, negligence, and civil conversion."
