Held annually on the first Saturday in August, the Fisherman's Picnic celebration in Grand Marais highlights our town's fishing heritage and brings together locals and visitors for a fun weekend of activities, live music, delicious food, and more.

The event is organized by the Grand Marais Lions Club, a volunteer club that raises funds for the local community. The event has a long history dating back to 1930 when it was first held as a way to thank the local fishermen for their contributions to the community.

The weekend activities range from a fish toss and tractor pull, to log rolling and live music. Of course, there is great food options from the local restaurants and food trucks to the infamous Lions Club fishburger stand (fresh-caught fried Lake Superior herring sandwiches).

Additionally, the Fisherman's Picnic includes a parade, which is a highlight for both participants and spectators. Local organizations, businesses, and community groups come together to create colorful floats and march through the streets of Grand Marais.
