2024 Golden Warrior Awards - Play of the Year Nominees
The Play of the Year nominees are set for the 2024 Golden Warrior Awards and are as follows:
1. 00:00 Taylor Anderson (MBB) – Game-Winner at Bushnell
Locked in at a 79-79 tie against rival Bushnell on the road, senior guard Taylor Anderson drove the length of the floor and scooped the game-winning layup in with 1.6 seconds remaining, eventually resulting in the narrow two-point victory after the halfcourt heave by Bushnell fell short. The layup gave Anderson 22 points on his ninth made field goal of the evening to secure the huge win and keep the Warriors ahead of the Beacons in the conference standings.
2. 00:21 Softball Infielders – Triple Play at College of Idaho
Against an NAIA Top 25 team, the Warriors pulled off a triple play in the bottom of the first inning to keep the No. 22-ranked Yotes off the scoreboard, a type of play that rarely happens in any level of the game.
3. 00:46 Lucas Mertlich (BSB) – Pinch Hit Double vs LC State
Serving as a pinch hitter with the game on the line, Mertlich roped a standup double down the leftfield line that would score a run put both the tying and game-winning runs in scoring position. Two at-bats later, the Warriors would plate the go-ahead run in a 9-8 upset over No. 7-ranked Lewis-Clark State College.
4. 01:09 Samuel Montes (MSOC) – 87th Minute Game-Winner at OIT
With less than 4 minutes to go in a high octane, nerve wracking match, Samuel collected a cut back pass from Irwin Leon outside the 18-yard box and unleashed a long distance rocket that crashed into the top corner of the goal to earn Corban their first win over OIT in three-straight matchups and thus three valuable CCC points against one of the conference’s top teams.
5. 01:26 Rylee Troutman (VB) – Kick Save/Kill vs WPU
Holding a 9-1 lead in the third set on their home court, outside hitter Rylee Troutman sloppily received the incoming serve, noticed setter Abby Guindy needing help on the attack, and proceeded to kick the ball up and over the net, which hit the ribbon and fell on the Knights’ side of the court for the most ridiculous kill of her career.
