Hravn racing - Marmetta Cup '24 - J109 sailboat Bellingham Bay in a pursuit race - asym spinnaker
Racing on the mighty J109 Hravn Sept 14 2024 was a treat and my first time racing in 2 months. Driving this racing boat is a real treat given her responsiveness.
This is a pursuit race wherein slowest sailboats start first. As "scratch boat" (we have the "fastest boat" PHRF handicap) we started last, which meant i could start more like a fast dinghy alone, cracking off 30 seconds before the start to power up in the 11-12 knots true wind.
To win we had to pass the other six boats. We got ahead of 3 of them...and we had to dodge a ton of eelgrass coming fast. One got us, to the point that sitting in the companionway or cockpit or steering the boat, one could feel the shimmy.
In any event on J109 HRAVN - A GOOD TIME EVERY TIME.
