This is a recording of a webinar on phishing attacks and how to spot them presented to the AMER/CAN group. By featured Business Person - Todd Mitchell - Owner of Cybersecurity4biz, LLC. Hosted by Helena Smolock (https://www.velocityathletictraining....)
Cybersecurity4biz is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Micro Business that specializes in enabling entrepreneurs and micro business owners to become cybersecurity compliant and prevent a data breach so you can protect your most valuable assets: people and information!
I started this business because I was working for the military and implementing cybersecurity when my friend’s small business had data loss issues. While trying to help him I realized that there are no resources available for small businesses. all the Cybersecurity Companies that I called say they work with Small/Medium Business, but require at least 100 computers on your network.
Most entrepreneurs and micro small businesses like myself cannot afford and do not need that solution. So, I made the decision to provide very relevant affordable solutions to a very real problem in today’s world!
You should focus much more on networking in the community, meeting business owners and joining small groups that share advice. This is much more productive than marketing on social media, especially in the professional services area where you have no physical product that you can take pictures of.
Networking has let me start so many great relationships with entrepreneurs in my area. I love doing pro bono work for non-profits, they are grateful and tell others about your service. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising, but you have to get involved to get it!
I have made a positive impact in the community by working with entrepreneurs and micro business owners (20 employees or less) that do not have enough revenue or employees for IT departments. I teach them cybersecurity PREVENTION by showing them how to build a cybersafe culture in the organization. By changing human behaviors, they can prevent their business from being targeted by hackers trying to steal their clients personally identifiable information. Prevention keeps them from relying on monitoring services that tell you have been hacked after it happened, or hope their insurance covers it. I focus on the organizations employees and human behavior that causes 92% of all data loss.
During the pandemic I shifted to an online model where I focused on videos and virtual meetings to design custom made solutions for my customers. I also created step-by-step instructions so they could implement the cybersecurity themselves during the shutdown. Delivering these not only allowed them to implement themselves and save money, but also teaches them what the cybersecurity best practices are so they can maintain it themselves in the future. Occasionally I will remote in to their computers to help where needed.
