“I grew up in Apalachin, NY which was the site of the infamous 1957 summit of 100’s of the American mafia’s leadership at the time, which ended up getting raided by J Edgar Hoover's FBI. My personal story and interest in Swing music and mid-century schmaltz in general is informed by my being raised amidst a community of Italian Americans in the 1970’s. Being Italian is something that is in the air back there. When you went into even the littlest Italian restaurant it wasn’t surprising to see a picture of the Pope, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin above the cash register. Hey Goombah, exemplifies my love for all things Italo-Americano, like for instance the sense of family; this goes very deep in me." - Steve Perry

Lyrics
We like schmaltz down here in Jersey
Cause we’re on our feet all day
Where the slide trombone really gets in your soul
In a suave Italian way
By nightfall the table is ready
And the family is talking loud
Well I might be a hot head sister
But a moonlight kiss will really
Melt me down
Hey Goombah My Paisan
I’d take a little bit of you and me time
Hey Goombah My Paisan
Family is the pinnacle of life
Hey Goombah My Paisan
I’d take a little bit of you and me time
Hey Goombah My Paisan
Family is the pinnacle of life
Be careful in the city of the night
3 straw bottles of Chianti
And a pinkie ring with a jewel
Candle wax drips down on the red and white checks
While we spoon pasta fazool
The Pope's portrait is over the cash drawer
There’s a napkin stuffed in my tie
A little horn hangs down in my chest hair
To ward off bad luck and the evil eye
Hey Goombah My Paisan
I’d take a little bit of you and me time
Hey Goombah My Paisan
Family is the pinnacle of life
We’re a family in the city
Hey Goombah
When it comes to the moonlight x3
Hey Goombah My Paisan
I’d take a little bit of you and me time
Hey Goombah My Paisan
Family is the pinnacle of life
Hey Goombah My Paisan
I’d take a little bit of you and me time
Hey Goombah My Paisan
Family is the pinnacle of life
Be careful in the city of the night
