Why is it easier to swim in the ocean than in a lake? The saltwater is denser! You can demonstrate Archimedes' principle right at the dinner table: an egg will sink in a glass of freshwater but will float in saltwater because the egg is less dense than the saltwater, and the buoyant force becomes strong enough to balance gravity.
