HOW TO WRITE A GOOD COVER LETTER - Cover Letter Examples. The truth about cover letters. “How to write a cover letter?”, “What to put on one?”, and when will I make a video with “Cover Letter Tips”? is what I get asked often. According to studies made last year 47% of job seekers STILL write cover letters. I have been reluctant about making a video on this subject. And I will be honest with you, I am not a fan of cover letters. If you are sending your resume to someone from an HR team or to a Recruiter, I can guarantee you that the vast majority of them don’t read cover letters at all. Recruitment teams review hundreds of resumes each day, so reading cover letters is physically impossible.
Years back cover letters used to be “a must” and a big deal: when you saw a position advertised in a local newspaper, or when a relative or neighbour heard about an opening at the company and gave you heads up about it. You couldn’t just mail your resume, you needed to properly explain who you were and why you were mailing your resume. It could take days and even weeks for your resume to reach the right person.
Nowadays, anyone can apply to any position in a matter of seconds. Your resume or your job application is already linked to the job posting you’ve applied for. The cover letters are no longer as useful as they used to be.
BUT if you are sending your resume to a business owner, a department manager, a small company without an HR department, then your cover letter might make a difference. Also there are still some positions which require cover letters. Or sometimes you might have the need to point out something specific that you would like the hiring manager to know.
Now that you know the truth about cover letters, let me give you 3 main tips on how to write your cover letter whenever you need one. Stick with me till the where I share 2 examples of GOOD cover letters: one for a senior position, one for a junior-entry level role...
