Are iZotope Plugins Compatible With Audacity?
Someone asked this question on another video so I want to take a minute to show you what I experience when using iZotope plugins in Audacity. Audacity is not listed in iZotope's list of compatible DAWs. But will they work in Audacity? My answer is yes, and no, but mostly no. On the no side: After enabling 2 or 3 of the plugins, my playhead starts sputtering and skipping. You'll see this in the video although it took 4 active plugins to produce that result this time. This makes it impossible to edit with the plugins enabled. And I get the same results for both AU and VST3 versions of the plugins. Audacity may also crash randomly when you start playback.
On the yes side, if all you want to do is add iZotope effects to your track after editing to export it with the effects present, it will probably work for you but why would you do that? If you've purchased RX10 or the soon-to-be-released RX11, why not use it instead? If you're more comfortable editing in Audacity, do your editing there without any iZotope plugins added and then export your project or track as a WAV file, bring it into RX10, and add your FX there. That makes more sense to me. But maybe that's just me. Enjoy the video!!
