WHO RULES KAZAKHSTAN? Kazakh Zhuzes – The Tribal Structure of the Kazakhs
The origins of the zhuzes is one of the key and most controversial issues in the history of Kazakhstan. There is still no consensus on the meaning of the word "zhuz." The division into three zhuzes is a key characteristic of the Kazakh people, while among other Turkic and Mongol peoples, the division into right and left wings is generally accepted. The word "zhuz" has many translations—hundred, part, branch, etc. However, the general understanding is that a zhuz is a historically formed union of Kazakh clans in specific territories. In this video, we will try to understand the Kazakh zhuzes. Be sure to watch this video to the end; we worked so hard for you.
