This is an early video of my father and I running a wood gasifier we constructed.
If I had one piece of advice to give to someone looking to make one, you are starting a project that will NEVER end. I have a charcoal conversion in the works, but that's far in the future.
If I had to give a second piece of advice under the first, use charcoal. Its a much simpler and cheaper gasifier that can literally be made out of a five gallon metal pale and a couple plumbing fittings. no need for condensing or thorough filtering, the gas is clean straight out of the gasifier and all that needs to be filtered is dust, which can be done with a screen. It is the real multifuel system. Its lighter, simpler, and can use carbonized ANYTHING as a fuel. Grass clippings, leaves, sticks, logs, poop, anything that is carbonized (turned to charcoal). So long as you have a charcoal maker, which is even easier to build than the gasifier, requiring only a metal 55 gallon drum and some thought.
