BLACK KNIGHTS
The Osean Ground Defense Force's Special Forces "Black Knights" of the 1st Special Forces Group, under the 1st Special Forces Command, have carved a legacy as the pinnacle of Osea's elite military units. Formed in the 40s, the Black Knights were established to address emerging threats and conduct specialized operations critical to Osea's national security.
Black Knights was formed shortly after the 1st Special Forces Group activated at Fort Abraham, Foster, on May 8th 1941, with LTC George C. Howell as commander and MSG Arthur W. McNealy as the sergeant major. Following the tumultuous 1st Osean War in 1941, where the manipulation and ambitions of Belka led to widespread devastation, Osea recognized the need for a highly trained, adaptable special forces unit capable of operating independently and with precision. The Black Knights were handpicked from the best soldiers across Osea's armed forces and underwent rigorous training in unconventional warfare, intelligence gathering, and covert operations.
Their early missions were pivotal in gathering intelligence on Belkan remnants and preventing the resurgence of hostilities. Operating behind enemy lines, the Black Knights conducted sabotage missions, intercepted enemy communications, and secured valuable intelligence that shaped Osea's post-war strategy.
During the Belkan War, while not yet officially recognized as the Black Knights, elements of what would become the unit played crucial roles in key battles. Their efforts in disrupting Belkan supply lines and conducting reconnaissance missions were instrumental in Osea's eventual victory. The experience gained during this conflict laid the foundation for the unit's future operations and operational doctrine.
The defining moment for the Black Knights came during the War against the terrorist organization "A World With No Boundaries" (AWWNB). Emerging from the shadows of the Belkan War, AWWNB sought to dismantle national boundaries and plunge world into chaos. The Black Knights were at the forefront of Osea's response, tasked with neutralizing AWWNB's leadership and preventing catastrophic acts of terrorism.
Their operations during this conflict were marked by daring raids on AWWNB strongholds, infiltration of terrorist networks, and coordination of multinational special operations forces. The Black Knights' strategic acumen and combat effectiveness were pivotal in dismantling AWWNB's operational capabilities and restoring stability to the region. Around the year 1996, the surviving members of the Osean Air Defense Force's Wizard Squadron planned to carry out an assassination on Osea's president. However, a member of the group, instead of following their plan, decided to leak information regarding the plot to the Osean government. The Wizard pilots' whereabouts were found, and during a stand-off, two pilots were killed by Black Knights, while the other three were arrested. During their imprisonment, Kevin Shore, Wizard number 7 revealed information that would later lead to the arrests of Wizard pilots Iosif Beletsky (who was suspected of being the mastermind behind the assassination plan) and the flight's leader, Joshua Bristow, who was suspected of being the leader and founder of a A World With No Boundaries, an insurgent group that arose sometime after the end of the Belkan War.
Black Knights also crossed paths with two other Belkan War pilots, both from the Belkan Gault Squadron. Egon Strauss, former Gault 5, led an attack on the OWC Communications Company, taking nine people hostage and demanding the release of 135 Belkan prisoners. After a thirty-eight hour standoff, Special Ops raided the building and shot and killed Strauss.
Separately, Lorenz Riedel, former Gault 7, was investigated by Special Ops after he was reportedly seen in Oured. Evidently they were not successful in finding him as he surfaced over a decade later in the Estovakian Civil War.
